DIY: Safety Pin Earrings.

Image
I was really inspired to make something out of safety pins after the Safety First post, so I decided to make earrings. I went all out and bought some gold color wire, hooks for the earrings, a bunch of safety pins and all the tools required. After figuring out how exactly I was going to connect everything for the first earring.. the 2nd pair took me no time at all. I wonder if I could legitimately add jewelry maker to my resume now. Haha, I only kid.

Saint Motel

This weekend I went to see Saint Motel play at the Bootleg Theater. They are an indie-pop band with catchy beats and were pretty awesome to listen to live. You can really feel the energy of the band when seeing them in person. You should check them out here: Saint Motel . My favorite songs are  Butch and Dear Dictator !

Favorite Colors for Fall.

Image
Even though the weather has been really dreary lately... I'm excited for Fall. I think I've been exposed to the strong rays of the sun too much this summer due to my 29 day trip to Europe, so I welcome this weather with open arms. My favorite colors for Fall this season can be found in the form of OPI nail polishes: This season I'm loving grays, taupes, nude pinks, and dark reds.

Safety First.

I went to Crown Books today and was reading a couple of magazines.  I saw this article about DIY. One of the DIY Projects consisted of safety pins and a t-shirt. I tried to look it up online but couldn't find anything... but I did find this: How innovative is that? I'm now inspired to DIY with safety pins. Hopefully, I come up with something spectacular.

chocolate chip cheesecake brownie

Yep, it's exactly as it sounds. This weekend I made Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Brownies... it was a very rich desert that was great when paired with a tall glass of cold milk. So this was my 2nd attempt at making this recipe because I was an idiot and listened to this evil recipe from AllRecipes . Worst idea of my life; by deciding to add an egg to the cream cheese mixture, the cream cheese on the top began to become fluffy like a cake. It definitely was NOT what I was going for. For my 2nd attempt, I used a Snack Size Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge Brownie mix. I mixed all the ingredients as I normally would but added semisweet chocolate chips. I poured this mixture into an 8x8 pan. Then in another bowl, I added  and mixed 1/2 package of cream cheese (make sure its at room temperature), 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. I poured this mixture on top of the brownie mixture and used a fork to swirl it all in. Then you just pop it in the oven, following the directions...

DIY: el elefante

Sometimes during my lunch breaks I like to stroll around IKEA. On one of my trips, I became enamored with these art cards:   I wanted to make a card for someone, so I decided to use the IKEA art cards as inspiration for this project. A couple of years ago, I was at Target and bought some scrapbooking paper...even though I don't scrapbook I bought them because 1) it was $1 2) i loved the prints on the paper. And I have finally put it to good use! I made my own stencil for el elefante and cut away! Also, this card could serve as a double purpose: 1) a card (obviously) 2) if you buy a frame, you can frame it and it can decorate the walls/desk of your cubicle, office, or room! If you are drawing impaired and want to make el elefante for yourself, shoot me an email at absurdlypeculiar@gmail.com and i'll send you the stencil I made!

I haven't been on LookBook  for awhile now... so I thought I would pay the site a visit and of course, I fell in love with a couple of looks: Sue C from Korea Katze from Berlin Maedchen from Germany I love these girls looks because they have that bad ass look that doesn't seem so contrived. I'm loving Sue C's and Katze's leather jackets, Katze's boots and Maechen's polka dress, shoes, and dog!
