DIY: Wrap Bracelets

I was on GiltGroupe a couple days ago and was surprised... wrap bracelets by Chan Luu were selling for over $100 and were originally priced at over $200. Now I am not condoning people who choose to spend that much money on a wrap bracelet...seriously, if you have the money why not..but it's just that I don't happen to have that kind of cash to be spending $200 on one wrap bracelet!

I was even more shocked at the pricing because a couple weeks ago, my friend sent me a DIY for wrap bracelets from HonestlyWTF. She actually made one recently for around $8. I know, Chan Luu probably used real gold and silver trinkets or what nots... but why pay $200 when you can get the same look for less?

Yesterday, I was cleaning out my cigar box (that is not filled with cigars, but rather crafting supplies) and found the following items lying around:

So I figured I could make a wrap bracelet out of these materials. Now, it's not the same exact materials as Honestly WTF's tutorial but it's close enough. The necklace already had a clasp so I didn't have to worry about make my own and I removed the cross medallion. All I needed to do was line the ball chain with the necklace... and wrap away with the embroidery string. Here are some pictures of my process:

  1. I just found your site and I'm adoring every single DIY you've got here -- especially appreciate the detailed how-to photos. Peter Pan collars + chan luu wrap bracelets are so my bag.

  2. That was so creative! I am definitely going to try this! I am an arts and crafts buff and feel its ridiculous how pricey designers make their pieces. $200 for something that took less than $10 to make. *sigh*

    Nice blog!

  16. I had sticker shock from Chan Luu bracelet prices too....so I made a few myself as well. I used beads though, so a little more work....

  17. @ Nicole Law: You know I was thinking of making one from beads too! Also, I remember someone giving me 2 Swarovski crystal bracelets (the ones that almost everyone use to wear back in the days) I was thinking of experimenting and trying to make one out of those. But I need to find them first!!
