DIY: Notebook

Image
I really enjoy writing in notebooks, which document a range of things- from my to-do lists to enjoyable quotes from members of my family that I can look back on later and laugh. I currently use two notebooks and I realize that it becomes very difficult for me to keep it organized since I write everything in there. I decided that I should probably designate notebooks for certain things and so I came up with this idea of making my own notebooks since I can design them to look whatever way I want them and not pay any money for them. Here is my final result:

DIY Business Inspiration: Litter SF

Image
On Friday, I watched Friends with Kids at the Arclight in Hollywood. It was such an awesome movie and we were able to stay afterwards for a little Q&A with the director, Jennifer Westfeldt, and Jon Hamm. Totally worth my dinero and time. Then on Saturday, I was watching Shark Tank and that is when I came across the wonders of Litter SF . They are two sisters, Rachael and Mackenzie, who started making their own headpieces and eventually it expanded to other types of handmade body jewelry. Eventually, their orders became a little more than they could handle and that is why they were seeking investors in their company. It was interesting because I took an engineering entrepreneurship class and they discussed the fact that most businesses fail when they are trying to make a shift from a small business to a big business and that the best advice is to sell to someone who knows how to handle these types of situations. Litter SF was reaching this point where they were outgrowing the i

DIY Idea: Black Keith Haring Cuff Bracelet

Image
Have you ever seen something at the store or online and thought, I could totally make one for a fraction of the cost? And then you start breaking it down in your head on how you would make that happen? No? Well, I do. So here is me breaking down a Black Keith Haring Cuff Bracelet bracelet like I would in my head: ASOS Modern Armour Cuff Bracelet$26.86 Hive & Honey Cuff Bracelet, $22     Sharpie's Markers Scribbles 3-Dimensional Paint           Keith Haring Cuff Bracelet, $165 The great thing about this project is you can custom make the design to whatever you want.

Bracelet Trend? Kanye West approves and so do a bunch of other men.

Image
I have been and will be busy with phone interviews, turning in apps, and ebaying lately.. but I guess it is better than not being busy at all! While procrastinating, I saw this article on the NY Times Fashion and Style Section entitled Brothers at the Wrist . The article claims that after Kanye's performance at last years Coachella music festival, fashion and music blogs referred to these bohemian wrist tangles as "Kanye Bracelets." Kanye at Coachella 2011 As a result, there has been a surge of sales in these types of bracelets. I was totally unaware that they have been deemed as so and I first noticed a bracelet trend among DIY blogs like Honestly WTF , but more about stacking different types of bracelets (not solely "bohemian wrist tangles"/ "kanye bracelets"), which inspired me to create my own DIY bracelet . Honestly WTF I had no idea that this bracelet trend had become/has been popular among men. According to the article, there are sighting

DIY Inspiration: Tribal Safety Pin Necklace

Image
I was looking up images on Google because I was thinking of using safety pins for this wall art idea I had and then I came across this picture:  Chioma Nnadi's (Vogue Fashion writer) wearing a Vena Cava Necklace And this other one: Vena Cava I am SO thinking about making one of these.

DIY: MARNI Necklace

Image
I've been wanting to make this MARNI Necklace for a while. The only way I could think of making this for as little money as possible was using polymer clay. So I went to JoAnn Fabric's and picked up all of my supplies ( Thanks for the giftcard NT!). Things You'll Need:   polymer clay, ribbon, jewelry wire, scissors, jewelry wire pliers/cutters, glue, an oven

DIY: Wall Art Using Paint Chips

Image
I decided the apartment needed new wall art that didn't cost me much money. So I headed to Home Depot and picked up a bunch of paint chips. I seriously thought I needed to be stealthy because I was taking around 6 chips of the same color, but now that I think about it... I doubt anyone cares I am taking too many free samples. And here is my finished piece: Things You Will Need To Do This Yourself: posterboard (for the background/the thing you will paste the chips on), glue (i used tacky glue), scissors, a ruler, a pencil, and lots and lots of paint chips (found at Home Depot, Loews, etc.), a frame This project cost me zero dollars, since everything I needed was either free or I already had it. So I would definitely want to make another one to go with the one I just made. Here are some other paint chip diy art projects that I would like to try: How About Orange Home and Garden Hopefully, I get it done soon. Maybe after I turn in another 2 apps. Also, I fi

Jason Wu for Target: An Orderly Mob Experience.

Image
So I ended up going to Target at 8am on a Sunday just so I could "look" at the Jason Wu collection. The only thing is... there is no such thing as "just looking" when the doors open. You basically see a bunch of ladies speed walking to the collection and just taking things from the rack. So of course, you join into this orderly mob like mentality and just start taking things off the rack as well. You don't really think, hmmm... would I wear this? Nope, there is no time. So instead of just looking , I ended up taking home a couple pieces (this does not include the items I ordered online because they were not sold in the stores) that were never on my list of things to get. Then a couple hours later... guilt sets in. Seriously, what have I done? This is the point where you really think about how much you spent and I seriously blame it on the orderly mob.  I decided I am only keeping 2 things and the rest needs to make its way back to Target. I need to promise

Imaginary Shopping.

Image
Ahh!!! I have been neglecting my blog because I have been trying to get two applications done...one is due on the 1st and the other on the 3rd. Hopefully, I will finish them soon so I can head to the craft store on Wednesday. I really want to attempt to make that MARNI necklace. In the meantime, while I have been working on apps I have also been taking "break" times that consist of internet shopping. Here are the pieces I would love to magically appear on my doorstep. 1. Old Navy Waffleknit Tees , $30 2. Top Shop Scallop Vest , $30 3. Old Navy Denim Super Skinny Leggings , $34.94 4. Top Shop Marl Maxi Skirt , $40 5. Cooperative Ankle-Strap Pointy Skimmer , $34 6. ASOS BITTEN Leather Platform T Bar High Sandal , $136.35 7. Dolce Vita DV Sabina Short Moto Boots , $150 8. MARNI Necklaces , $390   9. ASOS Punchout Backpack, $69.08 10. Lodis Bond Edith Envelope Clutch , $198 Young Man - Nothing

DIY Inspirations

Image
I have been busy working on a portfolio that I want to send to a company (so that they can be amazed by my accomplishments and hire me.. I know wishful thinking), but I have been working so slowly and I am sure it is because I want it to be awesome and not due to procrastinating. :) So I haven't had a chance to work on any DIY projects or come up with any clever postings. So instead I give you a list of items I've seen that could potentially turn into DIY projects: 1. MARNI Necklace , $390 2. Oscar de la Renta Beaded Tassel Earrings , $395 3. Skulls Drawcord Bracelet , $26 4. Neiman Marcus Colorblock N-S Tote , $68 I don't guarantee anything, but I am leaning towards the MARNI necklace or Skulls Bracelet. I believe Stripes & Sequins did a DIY for earrings similar to these already and I already did a DIY on totes, but another tutorial couldn't hurt...so I guess time will only tell if I end up doing one of these! I leave you with a song that is making my work a li

DIY: Wall Art

Image
This past weekend, my friend wanted to add some art to her walls. At first we attempted this design from Make Under My Life : but then we realized we forgot to print the stencils and didn't want to mess it up. So then we decided to follow a DIY art project from The New Domestic : But the problem was that we didn't buy painter's tape as thin as the one they used. So we improvised by cutting smaller pieces of painter's tape and then we finally gave up on that because it took so long, and went with scotch tape. The whole process was super depressing because things kept going wrong...not printing stencils, buying 2" painter's tape, using scotch tape, buying translucent paint, but somehow it turned out ok. To make the paint less translucent, I mixed it with a little black acrylic paint.  So it turned into this dark green-like color. And using scotch tape didn't turn out to be such a bad idea. Things You Will Need :   painter's tape (in a decent
